Tunch Relish Poha’s rice flakes are flattened rice or pressed rice which makes light, healthy and delicious Indian snack and breakfast dish. Relish Poha is a medium rice flake which are very delicate and can be prepared in a variety of ways – salted, with yoghurt, or pressed into cutlets or tikkis. It is quick to prepare and nutritious.

Poha is a popular dish from Central and North India. To prepare it, the rice flakes are soaked in water for a few minutes. Curry leaves and mustard seasoning are added to hot oil, followed by vegetables. When the vegetables are soft, the rice flakes are added and garnished with peanuts, and a little grated coconut.

 

Poha Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of Poha (flattened rice flakes)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 potato, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp of sugar
  • 1 tbsp of oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the poha in a fine-mesh strainer under running water. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida.
  3. When the seeds start to splutter, add the chopped onion and green chili. Saute until the onions are translucent.
  4. Add the diced potato and carrot. Cook for 5-6 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Add the turmeric powder, salt, and sugar. Mix well.
  6. Add the soaked poha to the pan and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the poha becomes soft and slightly crispy.
  7. Turn off the heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Your poha is now ready to serve! You can enjoy it as a breakfast or snack with a cup of tea or coffee.
